Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre presents Fleeting—a mesmerizing showcase of cutting-edge contemporary dance from across North America.

Fleeting features two exciting new creations by New York City's Roderick George and Los Angeles' Cherice Barton, alongside audience favourites by Jennifer Archibald, Deborah Lundmark, and Chantelle Good, promising a captivating evening of creativity and artistry.

Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre is a Toronto based repertory company of exceptional next-generation artists founded in 1980 by Artistic Director Deborah Lundmark and Managing Director Michael deConinck Smith. Highlights include appearances at Toronto’s Princess of Wales and Royal Alexandra Theatres, five invitations to the Canada Dance Festival and tours to Singapore, Malaysia, China, Scotland and NYC. CCDT has been featured at Fall For Dance North, Toronto’s premiere international dance festival, and Harbourfront Centre’s inaugural International Junior Festival.

Dreamscape (Premiere)—Choreography by Roderick George

Roderick George, a native Houstonian, studied dance at Ben Stevenson’s Houston Ballet Academy and developed additional skills at The Alvin Ailey School, Miami City Ballet, LINES Professional Program, and the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) in Houston, TX. A bronze winner of the Youth American Grand Prix and a Presidential Scholar, Roderick has gone on to perform internationally with companies such as Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet and the Forsythe Company. Roderick is also the founder of kNoname Artist, a company exploring social commentary, diverse histories, and intersections of identity, culture, and tradition through dance.

So Long So Soon (Premiere)—Choreography by Cherice Barton

Cherice Barton is a creative director and choreographer based in Los Angeles, California, with a unique eye for transforming dance into inspired, emotional and visually stunning work for all mediums, from stage to screen. Cherice’s credits include The Grammys, America's Got Talent, Dragone Productions Le Reve & House of Dancing Water, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark on Broadway, Lucasfilm Animation, American Ballet Theater, Dance Camera West, BC Beat and the Juilliard School, among others.

The Pace of You (2023)—Choreography by Chantelle Good

Chantelle Good is a performer, choreographer, and teaching artist, originally from Toronto, Canada. In addition to a successful performance career, Chantelle is an Artistic Associate with TOES FOR DANCE and the Programs Director of Share the Movement, a non-profit organization committed to increasing diversity in the professional dance community by providing access and opportunities to young BIPOC dancers.

Deborah Lundmark, CCDT Co-Founder, Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer, has created more than 40 works for her company, impressing audiences and critics alike with the power, precision and artistry of her unique company. As Artistic Director she has also commissioned over one hundred works from a who’s who of Canadian choreographers throughout her 44+ year career.

‘Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold’

Based in NYC, Jennifer Archibald is from Mississauga and is the founder and Artistic Director of the Arch Dance Company, and Program Director of ArchCore40 Dance Intensives. Archibald is an Acting Lecturer at the Yale School of Drama and was appointed Guest Faculty Lecturer to develop the Hip Hop curriculum at Columbia/Barnard College. Jennifer’s choreographic credits include Atlanta Ballet, Ailey II, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Kansas City Ballet, Tulsa Ballet, Grand Rapids Ballet, Ballet West, Sacramento Ballet, Nashville Ballet and Pittsburgh Ballet, and worked commercially for Tommy Hilfiger, NIKE, and MAC Cosmetics.
