Parlous Theatre, with support from Common Boots Theatre, returns to Toronto with their raucous Fringe hit, INSERT CLOWN HERE, after sold-out runs in Hamilton, Calgary, Edmonton and at the 2023 Toronto Fringe, winning the Spirit of the Fringe Award. Thanks, in part, to a grant from the Toronto Arts Council, INSERT CLOWN HERE will be presented at The Theatre Centre (Incubator) from May 8th to May 19th (opening night May 9).

In a comedic collision of Chekhovian drama and Clown Chaos, INSERT CLOWN HERE follows a troupe of actors in a fully rehearsed, 19th-century melodrama that is upended when the lead actor goes missing and is replaced by a completely unrehearsed Clown. While the Clown tries to improvise lines and blocking from a script they haven’t read, the remaining cast will try to keep the story on track, resulting in a comedy-of-errors newly created every performance. What could go wrong? Only everything.

Co-written and directed by Parlous Theatre’s founders Kendelle Parks (THE FIRST STONE, Great Canadian Theatre Company/New Harlem Productions), and Jacob Willis (CLOWNS DOING SHAKESPEARE, Panoply Collective/Bard In The Park); designed by Irene Ly (Woking Pheonix, Silk Bath Collective), Christopher-Elizabeth (MAANOMAA FOR MY BROTHER, Canadian Stage), and Mathilda Kane (TEASE, Big City Kitties/Crows Theatre); and featuring the fully-rehearsed onstage talents of Kole Durnford (NIIZH, Native Earth Performing Arts), Ella Berger (ANTIGONE LIVES*, TMU/Why Not Theatre), Atlin Hofer (BONECAGE, Assembly Theatre), Margot Greve (KILLING TIME: THE GAMESHOW MUSICAL, Mixtape Projects), and Nicole Kleiman (HARMS WAY, TMU).

With an all-star lineup of unsuspecting Clowns such as Rob Feetham, Lisa Marie DiLiberto, Adam Paolozza, Anand Rajaram, Isaac Kessler, Jane Luk, Morgan Joy, Adam Lazarus, Kiana Woo and more, ensuring no two performances are ever alike!
