Toronto: Theatre Passe Muraille’s #BeyondTO Festival returns May 10-18

Friday, May 3, 2024

Our second iteration of #BeyondTO opens next week! This year’s festival will bring you two highly acclaimed works that showcase perspectives rarely seen on stage.

Don't miss Camille: The Story and Soliloquio (I woke up and hit my head against the wall) on stage from May 10th to 18th!

Camille: The Story by Audrey-Anne Bouchard (Montréal)

“An immersive performance beyond the visual”

Winner of the AlterGo’s annual Prix Accessibilite Universelle award, this work is “revolutionizing the world of artistic and theatrical creation.” Specially designed for people living with visual impairments, this work offers a completely new sensory encounter with dance and theatre. The small capacity of six audience members per performance promises an intimate, unique, and multi-sensory experience.

After his close friend Camille’s departure, Pierre navigates her absence and revisits memories that take shape through movement, smell, and sound. Grounded both in the real and the surreal, the story sheds light on Pierre’s emotional journey as he faces the loss of a meaningful friendship and tries to create ties with new people.

Camille is a special, gentle experience of friendship and loss with the wholly unique feel of a day in the life of Montreal. Performed for six audience members at a time, the show replicates in theatre form, an intimacy and an interdependency that Disabled communities would easily recognize and offers the opportunity to introduce audience care through theatrical expression,” - Marjorie Chan, TPM Artistic Director

The work is entirely accessible to people who are blind and to all audiences (ages 12 and over). People who are sighted and partially sighted must wear a blindfold from the beginning to the end of the performance.

Don’t miss your opportunity to experience a truly unique performance that will engage the sense like no other!

Soliloquio (I woke up and hit my head against the wall)

by Tiziano Cruz (Argentina)

“How can you be a migrant in your own territory?”

Our second production of #BeyondTO will be the critically acclaimed and internationally toured Soliloquio.

"As I tell my mother in the piece, politics is a complex space of discussion, and it is one that I wish to inhabit. Because I want people to come see the work, I don’t want them to feel attacked. All of this can seem complicated to them too; everyone carries their own conflicts. And what I wish is for us all to gather, beyond any distinctions created by the system, to tell each other that there are things we need to keep thinking about, things we must keep discussing." - Tiziano Cruz, Creator of Soliloquio

Soliloquio starts with a noisy and fun procession of music and dance leading community to TPM, inviting all to participate. Once seated, we are spell bound by the intensity of the poetry in Tiziano’s language as he tells us about the startling realities and inequities of being Indigenous in Argentina.” - Indrit Kasapi, TPM Artistic Producer
