“THIS LIKKLE PLOT HERE IS AN EFFORT, A TRIBUTE, IF YOU WILL, TO BLOOMING WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED” (MICHAEL, BEYONSEA AND THE MOTHERS)
A young girl named Beyonsea is sent to North America to join the mother she only knows through phone calls, barrels, and remittances.
Simone, Beyonsea's mother is a busy immigrant working two jobs.
Michael, their neighbour, who fled a Jamaican community, befriends Beyonsea and eventually introduces her to his alt persona, Melody Knowles.
Beyonsea and the Mothers tells the story of three Jamaicans who are brought together by circumstance in a place meant to give them second chances.
Written and directed by Teneile Warren, this theatrical production stars Albert Williams, Chelsea Russell, and Emerjade Simms. The production includes Set & Props Design by Jung A Im (GLA's Late Company), Lighting Design by Chris Malkowski, Costume Design by Des'ree Gray, and Sound Design by Riel Reddick-Stevens as well as contributions from Choreographer Kevin Ormsby and an original cover track by folk band T-Mento.
In Teneile's words, "Beyonsea and the Mothers is a story about family, being Jamaican, and finding home. It is inspired by the Jamaica I grew up in, around and came to know here in Canada. It is a piece of my heart, and I hope you'll join me at the theatre, to experience it for the very first time."
