Gananoque: Thousand Islands Playhouse announces its 2026 season

Thursday, October 16, 2025

"Our new Season is fresh, a little mischievous, and full of life. The 2025 lineup set the bar high, and we’re determined to keep raising it. Our productions are growing in scale and ambition, we are investing in our community, and strengthening our roots here at the Playhouse.

I couldn’t be prouder of what’s ahead - electrifying musicals, cheeky storytelling, heartfelt Canadian tales, and something entirely new for us: marionettes!

This Season is an invitation to lean in, laugh loud, and see the world a little differently. The 2026 Season lineup is below, and our Subscription Packages and Patron Memberships are now open!

There’s nothing quite like being in a theatre full of people, and I hope you’ll join us for the journey”. - Brett Christopher, Managing Artistic Director, Thousand Islands Playhouse

The 2026 season:

Women of the Fur Trade

by Frances Koncan

Firehall Theatre

May 1 - 24, 2026

Three women sit trapped together in a frontier fort: a Métis dreamer scribbling flirtatious letters to Louis Riel, a savvy Ojibwe trapper skeptical of rebellion, and a British settler worried about her absent husband. As they sip tea, banter, and weigh the fate of a budding resistance, they twist history into something fresh, fierce, and funny. This is satire with teeth. Women of the Fur Trade reminds us that the women at the edges of history were never bystanders.

Sugar Road

by Kristen Da Silva

Directed by Sheila McCarthy

Hannah Taylor has poured her heart into keeping her family’s amusement park, Sugar Road, alive. Years ago, she shared a single, unforgettable night there with Jesse Emberley before fame carried him away. Now Jesse returns, headlining the Spurs and Hearts Music Festival at the park, and the past comes rushing back. Sugar Road is a heartfelt story about the one that got away, and the sweet surprises life delivers when you least expect them.

When Danny’s cool-guy image collides with Sandy’s sweetness, their love story gets caught between peer pressure, Pink Ladies, and the roar of hot rods. Grease has the gum-snapping, hip-shaking music, style and spirit of an era that never goes out of fashion.

As Jamie races toward the future and Cathy reaches into the past, their timelines collide in the middle, at the single moment they both cherish. Set against the energy of New York City, The Last Five Years is a deeply intimate musical that captures the dizzying joy of falling in love and the quiet ache of letting go.

Enter the ever-dramatic Detective Pierre Pierrot, who must untangle the lies before the killer strikes again. Murder at Ackerton Manor is a fun-loving spoof of Agatha Christie murder mysteries, where plot twists and mistaken identities make for a raucous night in the English Countryside.

Joe and his dog Mister lose their home, and facing separation, head into the world for one last adventure together. The world seems broken, but Joe sees magic in the mundane, beauty amidst brutality, and life in the lost and lonely. Along their fantastical journey Joe and Mister encounter Mother Nature, Santa Claus, Jesus, the Tooth Fairy and more. A seemingly simple tale of a simple man, Wonderful Joe is a love letter to imagination, hope, and the art of filling broken hearts with gold. Ronnie Burkett brings this story to life with his signature style of beautiful puppetry.

Come From Away

Book, Music & Lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein

Directed and Choreographed by Stephanie Graham

Springer Theatre

Sep 22 - Nov 1, 2026

38 planes. 7,000 passengers. One small town. Come From Away is based on the remarkable real-life events following 9/11, when thousands of travellers were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland. As fear gripped the world, the people of Gander opened their arms. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness became trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into lasting friendships. This Tony Award-winning musical is a celebration of small-town kindness and the power of everyday people.
