Toronto: The King Black Box presents “A Goat, a Ghost and a Guinness” March 27-April 13
Monday, March 10, 2025
It is with great pleasure that we announce the World Premiere of A GOAT, A GHOST AND A GUINNESS, written by Canadian Playwright Aurora McClennan and directed by Ziggy Schulting. As our season closer, this production is a playful and spirited chance to break up the intensity of our humanitarian season before heading into our season 2025-26 opener, Romeo Pimp, in August 2025.
While Romeo Pimp will continue the deep thematic exploration seen in The Glory of Living (the intimate partner violence epidemic) and Girls Unwanted (lives of the city's most marginalized), this show offers a moment of levity, an Irish wake full of drinking, ghosts and unexpected revelations programmed by our formidable Artistic Director Ziggy Schulting.
About the Play
On the evening of their Grand Uncle Cian’s wake, the Ó Súilleabháin sisters find themselves hosting in The Goat of Arms, their family's 100-year-old Irish pub. What starts as a typical night of mourning quickly unravels when a Canadian tourist stumbles in with answers to family secrets they never knew existed. With laughter, drinking, and ghostly revelations, A GOAT, A GHOST AND A GUINNESS is a dark comedy that blends family dysfunction and folklore.
For this production, director Ziggy Schulting and production designer Sophie Ann Rooney have created an immersive experience, bringing the charm and grit of an Irish pub to life within The King Black Box. Expect an evening of humour, heart, and haunting surprises.
