Sir John A: Acts of a Gentrified Ojibway Rebellion

June 18 – August 3

Contemporary Classic | Historical | Comedy

By Drew Hayden Taylor

This sharp satire follows two friends on a wild mission to reclaim a stolen Anishinaabe artifact from the British Museum. Featuring a ghost, a hitchhiker, and a dose of biting humour, it’s a witty take on history from one of Canada’s most celebrated writers.

The Wind Coming Over the Sea

June 26 – August 12

World Premiere | Historical | Irish Folk Musical

By Emma Donoghue

Inspired by real letters from Irish immigrants Jane and Henry Johnson, this poignant musical follows their journey to Canada, beginning with a father who left everything behind to start a new life.

For a year, the lovers sent long, yearning letters across the sea. Eventually, Jane too set out for the new world, Henry’s letters tied in a ribbon at her heart.

Packed with traditional ballads and live Irish folk music, this new work by Emma Donoghue takes an unflinching look at an ongoing piece of Canada’s story: the promise and peril of emigration.

Quiet in the Land

Outdoors, on the Harvest Stage

July 5 – August 23

Canadian Classic | Historical | Drama

By Anne Chislett

One of Blyth’s most acclaimed productions, this Governor General’s Award-winner tells the story of an Amish father made bishop, and his son, who enlists to fight in WWI. A moving exploration of pacifism, family, and the pull of modernity that still resonates today.

Powers and Gloria

July 30 – August 30

Blyth Classic | Comedy

By Keith Roulston

When it’s time for Edward Powers to reluctantly hand the reins of his family business to his scheming young son, it soon becomes apparent father and son are bickering about something deeper than their business interests.

As Edward struggles with the loss of control, only Gloria, a vivacious part-time caregiver from the wrong side of the tracks, can help. Against all odds, it’s Gloria whose fierce wit and salt-of-the-earth nature open’s Edward’s mind (and his heart) wider than ever.

Don’t miss the triumphant return of the 2005 hit comedy by local playwright and Blyth Festival founding general manager Keith Roulston.

Radio Town: The Doc Cruickshank Story

August 20 – September 20

World Premiere | Historical | Country Musical

By Nathan Howe

In 1930s Wingham, Doc Cruickshank’s grass-roots radio station became a lifeline for rural Ontario and Canada’s answer to the Grand Ole Opry starring local musicians and songwriters including Earl Heywood, the Ranch Boys, Ernie King, Cora Robertson, and MORE!!
