Toronto: Théâtre français de Toronto announces its 2025/26 season
Thursday, May 22, 2025
Théâtre français de Toronto (TfT) is proud to unveil its 2025–2026 season: a vibrant lineup driven by powerful francophone voices and bold artistic propositions that explore themes of identity, memory, resistance, and transmission.
“This season, we invite you on a journey of intimate and powerful stories, shared emotions, and thought-provoking reflections. Whether you’re a long-time friend or visiting us for the first time, we can’t wait to welcome you, move you, and surprise you.” — Karine Ricard, Artistic Director and Co-Executive Director & Ghislain Caron, Managing Director and Co-Executive Director
The season opens in November with a timeless theatrical classic by Albert Camus: Le Malentendu (November 6–16, 2025), a gripping tragedy directed by Karine Ricard that immerses us in an inn where the return of a long-lost son sets off a fatal chain of events. TfT then continues with its flagship youth creation, Les Zinspiré·e·s 13 (November 27 to December 19, 2025), celebrating the boundless imagination of Franco-Ontarian youth, this time under the direction of Danik McAfee.
In February 2026, as part of Black History Month, the stage will welcome Nzinga (February 26–28, 2026), a co-production from the Centre du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui and Théâtre de La Sentinelle. Alone on stage, Tatiana Zinga Botao retraces her journey from the Congo to Belgium to Canada, mirroring the legacy of a powerful 17th century African queen. In April, young audiences will delight in Joséphine et les grandes personnes (April 15–18, 2026), a playful fable by Marie-Hélène Larose-Truchon, presented by Le Carrousel theatre company. This will be followed by Bonnes Bonnes (April 22–26, 2026), a hard-hitting creation by Nervous Hunter, co presented with Factory Theatre, that reimagines Jean Genet’s The Maids through the lenses of Chinese identity, internalized racism and sisterhood.
The month of May will feature two powerful productions: Je suis William (May 6–9, 2026), a feminist and inventive family musical about Shakespeare’s fictional sister, co-presented with the Alliance Française of Toronto, and Angle Mort (May 28–30, 2026), an autobiographical story by Stéphanie Morin-Robert that is as humorous as it is moving, exploring disability, self-acceptance and resilience. At the same time, TfT will actively contribute to projects of national and international scope. Les Sentinelles, a play by Olivier Sylvestre, will bring together artists from Canada, Congo and French Guiana in a pan-Canadian co-production with the company OTEP, and will be presented in May in French Guiana.
