Toronto: The Guild Festival Theatre presents “The 39 Steps” beginning July 17

Thursday, June 12, 2025

Part Hitchcock masterpiece, part classic spy novel, part Monty Python comedy - The 39 Steps is a hilarious and fast-paced whodunit featuring a cast of four playing over 100 characters.

The 39 Steps brings nonstop laughs, fast-paced fun, thrilling action and some old-fashioned romance to the Greek Theatre as part of Guild Festival Theatre's 14th Season in Guild Park & Gardens.

"I've been dreaming of this play for over a decade! It's fast-paced and funny and a fully theatrical experience. The audience is going to love watching the actors transform from scene to scene and character to character right before their eyes.” - Tyler J. Seguin, Director

The Play:

Richard Hannay, a Canadian in London, is leading a ho-hum life when he meets a mysterious woman who claims to be a spy. After Hannay is mistakenly accused of murder, he goes on the run to Scotland with an enigmatic organization called "The 39 Steps" hot on his trail.

GFT is pleased to welcome Sébastien Heins (Topdog/Underdog, Canadian Stage; The Tempest, Stratford) as Richard Hannay and feature Kiana Woo (Prince Caspian, Shaw Festival; King Lear, Soulpepper Theatre) returning to the Greek Theatre after her Dora-Award winning performance in GFT's Alice in Wonderland. Also returning to GFT is Georgia Findlay (The Drowning Girls), alongside Isaiah Kolundzic (Icemen, Theatre By The Bay; The Melville Boys, The Foster Festival) making his Greek Theatre debut.
