Toronto: Eldritch Theatre presents “Night at the Grand Guignol” February 18-March 1

Monday, January 26, 2026

Come with us, back in time, to a dingy theatre in Paris in the 1920s, as we present our versions of the dangerous, blood-drenched, sexually depraved, horrifically horrible horrifying horrors that entertained, scandalized, and horrorized horrified audiences at the fabled home of horror, Le Theatre du Grand-Guignol, the First Theatre of Horrific Horror.

You will laugh with fear and scream with mirth during hot and cold showers of madness, terror, torture, depravity and rivulets of spilled, crimson, flowing blood.

Not for the dourly puritanical, timidly squeamish, or Victorian of heart.

“No other local theatre company has as completely-defined an aesthetic as Eldritch Theatre, which specializes in imaginative, lo-fi, old-school horror and mystery stories, with puppetry and a bit of magic thrown into the mix". - Glenn Sumi

"Is it too gushy to call Eric Woolfe and Eldritch Theatre a national treasure?" - Istvan Reviews

Founded in 1897 in the Pigalle district of Paris, Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol (literally: “The Theatre of the Great Puppet”) has become synonymous with all things blood-drenched, and operatically horrific.

Eldritch Theatre's Director of the Uncanny, Eric Woolfe (MacBeth - A Tale Told by an Idiot, Little Lib'ary of the Damned), a 25 time Dora Award nominee and 25 time loser, has adapted four of the theatre's most notorious, shocking plays, and re-imagined them in Eldritch's own unique style of low-brow pop, and ghoulishly giddy theatricality. He serves as playwright and director for the evening's parade of scandal and torment.

Eldritch Theatre’s resident creepy couturier, Melanie McNeill (Dora Winner for Space Opera Zero! and Dora Nominee for Requiem for a Gumshoe, MacBeth - A Tale Told by an Idiot) provides the ensanguined esthetics.

And the cast is made up of relative new comers to Eldritch's demented fambly... Pip Dwyer (It, Double Double), Natalia Bushnik (Dead of Winter, Samca) and Jeanie Calleja (My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, The Numbers Game)
