Young People’s Theatre (YPT) takes family fort-building to a colossal new level with the Canadian premiere of FORTS! Build Your Own Adventure. Fun for the whole family, this one-of-a-kind immersive experience invites children (ages 3-12) and their adults to step inside a giant living room where cozy couches, dozens of funky lamps, and hundreds of cardboard boxes await their imagination. Build a cute hideout, a sprawling castle, or a whole city! From Chicago’s Filament Theatre, this fun-filled experience transforms YPT’s Studio from Jan. 24 to Feb. 8.

An Exclusive, Immersive Adventure:

Each 60-minute session is kept intimate with only 35 participants, ensuring families have plenty of space and supplies to create. With a dynamic soundscape, fun lighting, special props, and a Guide offering live prompts to spark creativity, the whole family can dive into a world of pure, collaborative play.

“There is something deeply nostalgic and universally joyful about building a fort,” says YPT Artistic Director Herbie Barnes. “FORTS! reimagines the classic family activity by taking it out of the home and into the community, expanding the magic and offering the opportunity for families to feel the power of collaborative play at a large scale.”

FORTS! Build Your Own Adventure is part of YPT’s newly launched Room for Play program offering immersive play-based adventures designed to ignite imagination and interactions between young children and their grownups.

“We’re really excited to bring FORTS! to life,” says Sehar Bhojani, YPT’s Intergenerational Programming Producer. “It’s rare to find a space where toddlers, kids, parents, and grandparents can all play together, and that’s exactly what makes it special. We’ve seen again and again at YPT how powerful it can be when families are given room to play, imagine, and build something together.”
