Kingston: Theatre Kingston presents “Hands in Her Pockets” March 12-21
Wednesday, February 4, 2026
Two Seasons ago at Theatre Kingston’s Annual General auditions, two actors entered. They were moving, magnificent and Rosemary Doyle, the Artistic Director, was eager to work with them. The problem was there wasn’t a part to play that season for either actor. Interestingly, both actors were deaf, and they knew each other very well, as they had formed a theatre company Deaf Spirit. Thus, the conversation began, and the creation of just the right show.
Inspired by Marie Jones’ award-winning comedy Stones in his Pockets Rosemary Doyle (EEN) has written a play that highlights the friction between the Hollywood dream, and the Hollywood reality for deaf actors. Offering both riotous comedy and deeply moving moments.
Hands in Her Pockets is an actor driven narrative where the performances will be front and centre. We are highlighting ASL in a realistic way, but we will make sure that those who don’t know sign language will be able to understand at the deft hands of this talented cast. Hayley Hudson, plays Fiona Conlon an actor/screenwriter who fancies herself the next Quintin Tarantino. Elizabeth Morris plays Janey Quinn, a third generation background performer who is in it for the money. Rounding out the cast is Lauren Lafayette Brooks who plays all the others on set, from star to homeless trespasser.
Join us as we navigate this hilarious entry into the world of ASL, the Film Industry, and our silencing and exploitation of those who are different then us. Be inspired to never give up on your dreams, just as they never give up while navigating a world that doesn’t try to understand.
Hands in Her Pockets runs March 12-21 at the Grand Theatre, Kingston.
