Toronto: Red Sky Performance and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra present “She Holds Up the Stars”

Tuesday, March 3, 2026

Red Sky Performance and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra present She Holds Up the Stars April 13-19.

She Holds Up the Stars is an original multidisciplinary work - written, created, and directed by Sandra Laronde, based on her award-winning young adult novel.

Blending contemporary Indigenous storytelling, theatre, large-scale puppetry, and live orchestral music, the production offers a powerful and emotionally resonant experience for audiences of all ages.

At its heart is a young Indigenous girl searching for her mother’s truth. Through an unexpected bond with a spirited horse, she finds courage and resilience in a world shaped by beauty and cruelty, and the deep pull of land and family.

The performance features music and sound design by Eliot Britton, performed live by members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

In developing the stage production, Laronde collaborated with award-winning UK puppet designer Nick Barnes to create a striking life-sized horse puppet - one of several bold visual elements that shape the theatrical world of She Holds Up the Stars.

She Holds Up the Stars is commissioned by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, in association with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, TO Live and the National Arts Centre’s National Creation Fund, on stage April 13 - 19, 2026 at Roy Thomson Hall.
