Theatre East will present the U.S. premiere of Daniel MacIvor's An Ordinary Afternoon in 1974 April 29-May 23 at the Court Square Theater in Long Island City.

Judson Jones (Eye of God, Canaan Unremembered, The Soldier Dreams) will direct a cast that features Carla Briscoe (Blue Caprice) as Joan and Holly Cinnamon (Succession) as Elizabeth. Opening night is set for May 1.

The play follows longtime friends and neighbors, Joan and Elizabeth, as they revisit their shared past.

“It’s always a gift to collaborate with Daniel,” says director Jones in a statement. “I love the way he tells stories –so deeply human, imaginative, and theatrical, filled with generosity and a sense of celebration. We worked together on The Soldier Dreams about 15 years ago and it remains one of the highlights of my artistic life. I’m beyond thrilled that we now get to bring another beautiful story to audiences in the U.S.”

The production will also have lighting design by Zach Murphy, scenic design by Logan Kovach, sound design by Robert A. K. Gonyo, and costume design by Sherry Martinez. Ebony Davis is the production stage manager, and Christa Kimlicko Jones is the assistant director.

Maclvor is a Toronto-based playwright, performer, filmmaker and producer. He is the recipient of the Governor General’s Literary Award in Canada, the Siminovitch Prize for Theatre, an Obie Award and a GLAAD Award. His plays also include Never Swim Alone (Fringe Festival Award), In On It (GLAAD and Obie Awards), His Greatness and A Beautiful View.
