Something Old making its World Premiere!

Written by Barrie artist Keara Voo and directed by Richard Lam, Something Old is the story of a young bride-to-be who must put navigate familial tensions as she tries to pull off a wedding that honours both where their family has come from and who they are today.

Lily Chan is engaged. While her mother, Stephanie, is excited to begin planning and embark on this once-in-a-lifetime journey with her only daughter, Lily has a different vision for her wedding: she wants to throw a traditional Chinese wedding to celebrate her heritage. Leaning on her beloved Pau Pau to support her in integrating these traditions into her big day, the status quo of this family is put to the test and tensions run high. But when a wrench is thrown into Lily's plans, the family must put aside their differences and rally to help her pull off a wedding that honours both where their family has come from and who they are today.

The cast includes Kiana Woo, Breton Lalama, Harriet Chung, Sarah Orenstein, John Ng, Anastasiia Ziurkalova and the Chinatown Community Lion Dance troupe.

Rounding out the creative team are Julia Kim (Costume Designer), Amelia Mielke-O’Grady (Set Designer), Joey Lau (Stage Manager), Maddie Bennett (Apprentice Stage Manager) and Rian Tran (Production Manager).

We are also excited to announce that this is the debut performance of our ARIA Translation Glasses, which will now be available for all local productions! Audience members may request to use this wearable tech free of charge, which supplies translations of the text in the language of your choice (up to 48 available) onto the lenses, allowing you to keep your gaze on the action and read the titles at the same time. This is also a great tool for those who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or studying English–just make English your language of choice!
