Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody opens Off-Broadway May 26

The Off-Broadway run of Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody, which began May 12 at the 6th Floor Theater at 530 West 27th Street, officially opens May 26. Originally scheduled for eight weeks, performances were recently extended through September 7.

Directed by Alan Kliffer, the Off-Broadway production follows a series of recent sold-out concert performances.

Featuring a book and score by Dylan MarcAurele, the cast is led by Jay Armstrong Johnson (On the Town, Hands on a Hardbody, Catch Me If You Can) as Ilya Rozanov and Jimin Moon (Sunset Blvd., Lempicka, Aladdin) as Shane Hollander. The company also features Ryann Redmond, Cherry Torres and Ryan Duncan. Standbys are Shelby Acosta and Daniel Brackett. (Johnson will not perform the role of Ilya June 15-22.)

Inspired by the hit HBO Max series about a complicated romance between two professional hockey players, Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody follows starry-eyed golden boy Shane Hollander on his "journey from power center to power bottom," according to press notes.

The creative team also includes choreographer Brooke and Tiffany Engen, music director Mateo Chavez, scenic designer Sully Ross, costume designer Brendan McCann, lighting designer Devin Cameron, sound designer Germán Martinez, and intimacy coordinator and sensitivity specialist Ann James. MarcAurele also penned the orchestrations.
