Our Monday Night Reading Series workshops are an important part of the creative development process, providing playwrights with the opportunity to hear their work performed aloud and receive valuable feedback before a full production is mounted. These workshops support new and in-development plays by creating a collaborative environment where writers, actors, directors, and audiences can engage with the material in a constructive and exploratory way.

Workshops help playwrights refine dialogue, pacing, character development, and structure, while audiences gain a unique opportunity to experience new work in its early stages. Through readings and post-show discussions, these programs foster artistic collaboration, community engagement, and the future development of new theatrical productions.

Clara Callan by Rick Whelan

July 6 at 4:00 pm

Based on the award-winning novel by Richard B. Wright, Clara Callan follows the life of Clara, a reserved schoolteacher living in small-town Ontario during the 1930s. Through letters exchanged with her adventurous sister Nora, who has moved to New York City to pursue a career in radio, the story explores themes of family, ambition, loneliness, love, and the changing roles of women during a transformative period in history.

The Benefactor by Madeleine Brown

July 27 at 4:00 pm

A new play that explores the complex relationship between generosity, power, and human connection. Through sharp dialogue and compelling characters, the work examines what it means to give, what it means to receive, and the unexpected consequences that can arise when personal motives and acts of kindness become intertwined. Thought-provoking and deeply human, The Benefactor invites audiences to consider the true cost (and value) of helping others.

I Quit the Band by Charlotte Corbeil Coleman

August 24 at 4:00 pm

This witty and insightful new play that explores friendship, ambition, creativity, and the challenges of finding one's voice. Set against the backdrop of the music world, the play follows characters navigating personal and artistic crossroads, questioning what success means and what sacrifices are required in pursuit of it. Filled with humour and heart, I Quit the Band examines the complicated relationships that shape our lives and the courage it takes to choose a new path.
