This October we’re proud to premiere two new one act plays in a Foster Festival Double Feature: Booth Number Seven by Emily Oriold and Rest in Peace by Jamie Williams.

In Two Sides of Goodbye, we present two stirring comedies reflective of the changes we make and realizations we come to later in life—sometimes a little too late. From church ladies to illicit affairs, from longtime friendships to deteriorating marriages, these stories will have you laughing while questioning the choices we make and the consequences that come with them.

For twenty years, every Sunday after church, Susan and Margaret have met in the same diner, at the same booth, ordered the same breakfast, had their coffee poured by the same waitress, and shared the joys, disappointments, and laughter of everyday life. But this Sunday is different. As familiar rituals give way to unexpected revelations, the friends are reminded that even the longest traditions can change. Filled with warmth and heartfelt humour, Booth Number Seven is a touching celebration of lifelong friendship and the ordinary moments that become the memories we cherish most. Sometimes the people who know us best are the ones who save us a seat.

There’s nothing funny about death. Or is there? Eavesdrop on a graveside confession as a wife looks for closure after the loss of her husband.

Ambivalent feelings and a baffled lover by her side lead to ridiculous revelations and life changing epiphanies. As she wrestles with the love-hate relationship she had with her husband, Harry, resentments rear their ugly heads and guilt pays a visit, while the new man beside her struggles to make sense of any of it. He just wants to make their flight to Costa Rica.

Though the tropics beckon she cannot leave until she has dumped the sum total of her feelings at the foot of Harry’s grave.
