A New Work in Progress the workshop presentation of a new production written and directed by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins makes its world premiere at the Shaw Festival this season. Created in association with The Shaw, this bold new production debuted in its workshop run at the Court House Theatre, enabling audiences to witness the creative process in action from August 1.

The tale of Cinderella is adored the world over, but there’s much more to this story than evil stepfamilies, fairy godmothers and eligible princes. Real life doesn’t end when the story does and this exciting, grown-up take on the classic fable imagines a darkly comic world beyond the fairytale and asks both where these characters come from, as well as where they end up long after the heroine puts away her glass slippers. It may not always be happily ever after, but even for so-called evil stepmothers, life is but a work in progress.

The developmental run of A New Work in Progress is brought to life through Tatiana Kalagian Kahvegian’s set design, with costume design by A.W. Nadine Grant and lighting design by Isabella Byrd. The production also features sound design by Bray Poor and puppet design and fabrication by Greg Corbino with incidental music composed by Alexa Belgrave and Ryan deSouza. The stage management team includes stage manager Lisa Russell with assistant stage managers Liz King and Annie McWhinnie.

On stage at the Court House Theatre (26 Queen Street) from August 1 to September 10, A New Work in Progress is recommended for audience members 13+. Running time is approximately two hours with one 15-minute intermission.
