Mainstage Shows:

A new work from the creator of TPM's 2020 hit show Suitcase/Adrenaline, Ahmad Meree's UNCIVILIZED is a searing and funny examination on citizenship, belonging, and the exhausting performance of assimilation.

Mohammad sits before a camera, answering questions. What begins as a bureaucratic interview spirals into a raw exploration of what it means to be “civilized” in a world that demands you justify your existence. Uncivilized is a play that explores the journey of leaving home to become a refugee and then a citizen. What is identity? A piece of paper?… we’ll see.

From award-winning artist Michael Caldwell, musical theatre sensation Anika Johnson, and TPM Artistic Producer Indrit Kasapi, comes a wildly theatrical musical memoir that invites audiences to come home for the holidays.

Ever since his mother passed away, Michael and his Vietnam-vet dad barely speak, instead spending their annual Christmas in Pittsburgh watching reruns on tv. But when the words run out, the singing starts. Backed by the musical genius of Anika Johnson’s original pop score, HEY BIG MIKE! hosts a kaleidoscopic cabaret of unforgettable characters, each with their own distinct musical style and story to tell.

For in-demand dance stars Naishi Wang and Lukas Malkowski, some conversations can only happen through the body.

Fascinated by our (mis)communication affected by the digital age, Naishi and Lukas move through the invisible and unspoken emotions buried deep inside of us — the push and pull, the reaching and withholding, the moments when people are present and the moments they are not. In Face to Face through a series of intentional attempts they try to communicate via facial expressions, gestures, dances, bodily rhythms, and Mandarin and English songs in order to answer the core question: How do we continue when we don’t fully understand each other?

After premiering his first full-length play Pu-Erh with us in 2010, acclaimed playwright Norman Yeung returns with a show that speaks directly to the heart of our neighbourhood.

Directed by TPM Artistic Director Marjorie Chan, AGING YOUTH GANG tells the story of a trio of elderly rebels who rise to protect their Chinatown from extinction. None too pleased with yet another hipster coffee shop gentrifying their neighbourhood, they deal with the invaders the best way they know how: sabotage!

Raoul Bhaneja's Hamlet (solo)

Around the world and back again: stage and screen veteran Raoul Bhaneja brings his solo HAMLET performance back home to the stage where it all began for a three-show only special engagement!

In Hamlet (solo), Bhaneja strips Shakespeare’s most iconic tragedy down to its raw, beating heart — no sets, no costumes, no safety net. Just an actor, the text, and you. Award-winning and internationally acclaimed, Hamlet (solo) directed by Robert Ross Parker has electrified audiences from the Arctic Circle to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. With seventeen characters coursing through a single body, Bhaneja doesn’t just perform Hamlet — he becomes it.

Winner of the 2022 Best Actor Award at New York’s United Solo Festival, the world’s largest festival of solo work; winner of the Montreal English Critic’s Circle Award for Best Visiting Production; and nominee for the Calgary Critic’s Award for Best Solo Show, Hamlet (solo) has been performed over 150 times in 25 different cities since its debut in 2006.

Proceeds from every performance will support The Andy McKim Endowment Fund for New Works, ensuring the continued growth of artists and the development of new works at Theatre Passe Muraille now and into the future.
