Port Perry: Theatre on the Ridge presents “Piggyland” September 9–20

Friday, September 4, 2026

Theatre on the Ridge wraps up summer under the tent with another world premiere production - Piggyland by Durham playwright, Graeme Powell. The production will run September 9 – 20 at Scugog Shores Museum.

Piggyland is an exciting new drama by Graeme Powell. Inspired by true events that took place in Sunderland, Ontario, in the early 1960s, Piggyland is a tale of greed, deception and the pursuit of dreams. Concocted by career conman John Laun, the Piggyland farm raised over a million dollars from investors eager to double or even triple their investment. Instead, they lost it all. The mysterious John Laun vanished without a trace… and so did all the money. Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Directing the production is company artistic director, Carey Nicholson, who is eager to bring this new work to audiences. “When Graeme approached me three years ago with his concept for Piggyland, I was immediately excited to see where this piece could go and in 2024 our oRidginator Lab artists spent a week workshopping the first draft with Graeme. By the end of the week, I could see the play on our stage and knew I wanted to direct it.”

In keeping with Piggyland’s homegrown roots, the cast will feature several local area actors familiar to Theatre on the Ridge audiences from past productions and across Durham Region, including Grant Evans, Howard Linscott, Craig Martin, Graeme Powell, Michael Serres, Nathan Simpson, Annette Stokes-Harris and Lisha Van Nieuwenhove.

Performances start with a public preview on September 9th, with the official world premiere opening on September 10th. Piggyland runs to September 20th. Showtimes are 7 pm Wednesday through Saturday, with Sunday matinees on September 13th at 2 pm and September 20th at 4pm. All performances take place on the grounds of Scugog Shores Museum. Group bookings are welcome.

Piggyland itself may be long gone, but memories of the infamous pig farm still remain and tickets are selling quickly. Find full details and ticket information at theatreontheridge.ca or contact the Box Office at boxoffice@theatreontheridge.ca / (905) 242-9343.
