Toronto: Tapestry Opera and Against the Grain present the Canadian premiere of “Dog Days”
Thursday, September 17, 2026
Tapestry Opera and Against the Grain Theatre present the Canadian Premiere of Dog Days by David T. Little and Royce Vavrek November 18-29.
Dog Days is a contemporary opera that combines classical vocals with dark ambient noise and amplified electric guitars.
Dog Days follows a family struggling to endure in the aftermath of a societal collapse. As food disappears and hope grows scarce, a mysterious man in a dog suit arrives at their door asking for scraps. What begins as an encounter with a stranger becomes a reckoning with hunger, dignity, compassion, and the limits of our humanity.
Blending the power of opera, rock, and musical theatre, Dog Days is a haunting portrait of a society coming apart - and of the people trying desperately to hold on to themselves as it does.
Critically acclaimed by The New York Times, this Canadian premiere marks a major collaboration between American composer David T. Little (Soldier Songs, JFK) and Canadian librettist Royce Vavrek (Angel’s Bone, Listen, Quiet).
