Executive secretary Evelyn Reese (Susan Fischer) is an over-the-hill, self-appointed life of the party who who looks a fright but thinks she, her life story and her jokes are fabulous despite abundant evidence to the contrary. The show’s virtues and flaws are the same. Fischer captures this type of obnoxious character so perfectly that most people would flee from her rather than spend an hour listening to her inane chatter. Fischer has Miss Reese start out already staggeringly drunk. If we could see Miss Reese progress from sober to plastered, the show and the character would acquire a more varied tone and, as a result, be much funnier.
