Love, So Says ... is a double-bill of two dance pieces for two women. The short Faint Light tightly choreographed by Keiko Ninomiya precedes the more elaborate title piece by Michael Caldwell. In Ninomiya’s piece confrontational pushing develops into an increasingly violent struggle in which another woman (Amy Hampton) repeated tries to restrain Ninomiya, but the conflict dissipates too quickly. Caldwell’s piece begins as a waltz. Hampton happily leading and Ninomiya following. Soon each woman questions her role, most obviously when Hampton twice mimes the words to “The Power of Love”, first comically, then sadly. Caldwell does not need a second ending to hammer home that neither woman can now return to her former role.
