December 7, 2011… General Director Antoni Cimolino will receive the “Friend of El Salvador” award for his efforts in helping the city of Suchitoto. The award will be presented by Oscar Armando Toledo, Consul General of El Salvador, in Toronto this week.

Mr. Cimolino is leading the Stratford Shakespeare Festival’s efforts to help the people of Suchitoto, El Salvador, find economic recovery through the arts. The Suchitoto Project, operated through a CUSO partnership, entails rebuilding and transforming an existing but fragmented infrastructure into a unified and self-sustaining centre for theatre arts in Central America. Central to the project is the establishment of the Es Artes school. The first group of students in the two-year theatre program graduate in the spring of 2012. The students recently travelled to Washington, D.C., where they performed for the annual conference of the Organization of American States.
