TORONTO, January 13, 2012 - Paul Kreppel, the Tony Award-winning star of the hit comedy My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy! currently running at Toronto's Bathurst St. Theatre, is leaving the show to join the National Tour of the musical WICKED as the Wizard.
The producers of My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy! wish him all the very best in his new role and have announced that, after a run of 17 weeks (136 performances) where it played to more than 15,000 audience members, the show will now close on February 5.
Don't miss this last opportunity to see Paul Kreppel before he is off to play "the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz!" Tickets to My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy! can be purchased through Ticketmaster at 1-855-985-ARTS (2787) or online at www.italianjewish.ca or www.ticketmaster.ca.
Kreppel has kept audiences in stitches, winning heaps of popular acclaim since the first show here on October 12. Kreppel performed in My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy! for over a year off-Broadway and, during his run there, won Broadway.com's "Audience Choice Award - Favorite New Play" Award.
Toronto fans have posted comments such as: "Amazing. Kreppel is extremely engaging and talented. I laughed the entire time," "tremendous," "a definite must-see," "good-hearted laughs," "fun, fun, fun" and "I would recommend this show to any one, any age!" A marriage proposal from a young man from Italy to his Jewish-Canadian girlfriend even took place on stage after the show one night!
Described as "One part lasagna, one part kreplach, and two parts Prozac," you don't need to be Jewish or Italian to enjoy it. All you need is to know what it feels like to leave a family dinner with heartburn and a headache!
Other accolades for the show include: "a little Alan King here, a pinch of Seinfeld there, with a smidgen of Don Rickles, Billy Crystal and George Carlin thrown in." (Variety); "Hysterically funny! Non-stop laughs all the way!" (Regis Philbin); "as heartwarming as comfort food. Everyone can relate to this!" (Martha Stewart Living Radio), and more!
Written by award-winning author Steve Solomon, My Mother's ItalianŠ is based on Solomon's life growing up in a wacky family noted for its bi-ethnic diversity and aptitude for dysfunctional behavior. It played for almost two years off-Broadway in New York City; and has toured nationally and internationally in more than 100 cities. The production was awarded "Audience Choice Award - Favorite New Play" by Broadway.com and the "Theater Fans Choice Award" for Best off-Broadway play on BroadwayWorld.com. Solomon has written two sequels to his original hit. All three shows are currently touring the United States starring either Solomon (who spends more than 40 weeks each year touring with his shows) or other actors he's trained to keep up with demand.
The Toronto show is produced by Philip Roger Roy, Dana Matthow and Bud Martin who also have productions of My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy! in Phoenix, Arizona from (January 18 - February 19) and Baltimore, Maryland (March 7 - 11), both starring comedian Ron Tobin; and in Coral Springs, Florida from March 14 - 25 starring show creator Steve Solomon.
