LEND ME A TENOR
By Ken Ludwig
Directed by John Addison
Performance Dates: April 27, 2012 – May 19, 2012
Cast: N.B. Ages indicate the age the character should appear to be
Max: 25-30 Assistant to the General Manager. A nerd from the get-go, loves Maggie and the opera. Fantasizes about being on stage. Easily intimidated by Saunders.
Maggie: 20-30 Max’s girl friend. Wants some real romantic excitement in her life before she settles down. Her romantic notions take her where common sense would say ‘no.’
Saunders: 50-60 Maggie’s father. General Manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. Authoritarian, easily excited; “Il Stupendo” is just a vehicle for 50,000 in ticket sales…
Tito: 40-50 Loves life, over-the-top Italian who seems to be ‘out there’ all the time. Everything is a drama to Tito.
Maria: 40s Tito’s wife. Hot blooded, emotional, a bit of a drama queen and seldom rational.
Bellhop: 25-50 Shrewd, wise guy, knows how to get where he wants to go.
Diana: 25-35 soprano in the opera company. Very sexy, knows exactly what she wants. Would likely sleep with the Bellhop if it got her on stage at the Met.
Julia: 45-60 Chairman of the Opera Guild. Can be passionate about opera, charming a good match for Saunders, the archetypical society matron. Not easily rattled.
Please prepare a short (2 minutes or less) comedic monologue and be prepared to read from the play. The actors auditioning for Max and Tito should prepare a portion of an operatic type song to sing a cappella. It is not necessary to have vocal training, just the ability to carry a tune and be heard! Please bring a résumé and headshot – a photocopy will do. You should read the play before auditioning. The script is on reserve at the Performing Arts Desk, 5th floor, Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge Street.
Please call Patricia at 416-762-4364 for an appointment
