TORONTO - What do you get when you put Toronto’s most hilarious comedians on stage with the order to tell their most embarrassing stories? You get a night of gut-busting laughter over surprising, unique, and 100 percent true stories! At least, that’s been the response so far at AWKWARD, Erin Rodgers’ monthly comedic storytelling showcase!
After a year of successful shows (every second Friday of the month) at Comedy Bar, Rodgers (pictured right) is hosting a special one-night only, all-queer Awkward at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, with a stellar lineup including TV legends Gavin Crawford (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Gavin Crawford Show) and Andrew Johnston (MuchMusic’s Video on Trial and host of Bitch Salad), and local comedy luminaries Dawn Whitwell (Comedy Girl, Rated one of America's Funniest Lesbians by Curve magazine), Paul Bellini (The Kids In The Hall), Maggie Cassella (We’re Funny That Way), Shawn Hitchins (Single White Douche, Survival of the Fiercest), Cream of Comedy finalist Marco Bernardi, and playwright and columnist Rob Salerno (Fucking Stephen Harper).
Rodgers herself is a rising star of the local comedy scene. She’s a member of the Cage-Match-winning improv team “The Bea Arthurs” and a former writer for the sketch troupe “Radio Vault.” Her short videos that she co-writes have become internet sensations – Twilight: Deleted Scenes has been viewed more than 100,000 times.
While the focus of the March 15 event is true stories of embarrassment with a queer angle, with a lineup like this, all audiences are going to want to see it. Erin Rodgers and her guests are available for interviews leading up to the event. Tickets can also be arranged for her regular monthly Awkward comedy storytelling event, the second Friday of each month at Comedy Bar at 8pm (Feb 10 and Mar 9) if you'd like to get a preview.
