TORONTO (Feb. 21, 2012) - Against the Grain Theatre continues its second season with a concert presentation entitled The Seven Deadly Sins (And Holier Fare), featuring rarely heard repertoire and some of the city's most dazzling emerging artists. Two performances at Gallery 345 in Toronto's
west end take place on Mar. 16 and 17, 2012.
Cabaret singer Lindsay Sutherland Boal headlines in Kurt Weill's show-stopping Weimar Republic cabaret The Seven Deadly Sins, sung in its original German with English surtitles with an all-new English translation by Against the Grain Artistic Director Joel Ivany and original choreography by celebrated dance artist Matjash Mrozewski. The vocal portion is rounded out with Abraham and
Isaac from Benjamin Britten's Canticle II.
The program also includes a set of two-piano masterpieces: John Adams' arresting Hallelujah Junction and Steve Reich's mesmerizing Piano Phase, performed by pianists Christopher Mokrzewski, Against the Grain Music Director, and Daniel Pesca, a Chicago-based contemporary music specialist. Piano Phase features an original dance composition by Mrozewski, performed alongside dancers Kate Franklin and Tina Fushell.
Performances begin at 8:00 p.m., with doors opening at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $30 and $50 and are available online at www.againstthegraintheatre.com and at the door.
