TORONTO, ON… Artistic Director Ken Gass and Managing Director Sara Meurling are pleased to announce that Penny Plain is being held over at Factory Theatre for one week. Penny Plain, a dark apocalyptic comedy created and performed by Ronnie Burkett, was to close in Toronto on February 26 but will now close on March 4. “Factory Theatre is thrilled at the audience response to Ronnie Burkett / Theatre of Marionette’s Penny Plain,” says Gass, “With high demand and reserved seating, we are pleased to announce that we are adding another week of performance – six shows specifically to fill the demand by our single ticket buyers. Penny Plain joins Billy Twinkle as the two biggest box office successes since Zadie’s Shoes in 2000. Penny Plain sounds a warning bell to our impending ecological disaster, yet with both gentle and not so gentle humour, invites us to see the world anew through the blind eyes of Penny herself as she too contemplates the end of life on this planet as we know it. Only through the creative genius of the master, Ronnie Burkett, could such bleakness prove so satisfyingly entertaining.”
Performances through to February 26 are Tuesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. ($38), Friday, 8 p.m. ($49), Saturday, 8 p.m. ($55), and Sunday, 2 p.m. (PWYC and $38 in advance). Tickets for the additional performances of Penny Plain will be available for purchase Wednesday, February 8, 1 p.m.; for the extension week, performances are Tuesday, February 28 – Thursday, March 1, 8 p.m. ($40), Friday, March 2, 8 p.m. ($50), Saturday, March 3, 8 p.m. ($55) and Sunday, March 4, 2 p.m. (advance $40 & 30 PWYC tickets available on a first-come, first serve basis).
