by Devon Hubka, directed by Marcia Bennett

rhymes with 7., Toronto Fringe Festival, Annex Theatre, Toronto

July 5-13, 2013

Devon Hubka's unusual solo show gives a detailed account of her failure to achieve her lifelong dream of a career in musical theatre despite a warmly appealing personality and a big, lush voice born to sing show tunes.  A further irony is that she performs the show in one of the theatres of the Randolph Academy where she studied and was encouraged.

Her stories about her love life are haphazard and clichéd, and the inclusion of an awkward dance routine is a mistake when singing is clearly her forte. More compelling is the mordantly realistic view of the industry that will benefit anyone contemplating a life in theatre, and the hope she holds out that there is life after the dream.
