At SummerWorks 2013:
Toronto, ON...Falling Hammer, a new theatrical venture led by Alex Poch-Goldin and Kelly Thornton, presents a play sure to be the event of the 2013 SummerWorks Festival. The Life of Jude is written by Alex Poch-Goldin, directed by David Ferry, with Original Music by Jesse LaVercombe. This Epic-style piece with original songs, features a powerhouse ensemble of some of Toronto’s most esteemed theatrical heavyweights along with the 2013 Graduating Class of the National Theatre School of Canada.
The Life of Jude stars Adam Kenneth Wilson (Terminus) as Jude and features the talents of Bruce Dow (Stratford, Broadway), Maurice Dean Wint (Haven, Rude), Kevin Bundy (Soulpepper, Shaw), Pamela Sinha (Crash, The Little Years), Hardee Lineham (Stuff Happens, Crave), Steve Cumyn (Angels in America, Stratford), Dylan Roberts (Lord of The Rings, Warhorse), Jeffrey R. Smith (Little Mosque on the Prairie), Paul Dunn (East of Berlin), Jeremiah Sparks (Oil and Water), Richard Zeppieri (Carried Away On the Crest of a Wave, This Hotel). They are joined by the 2013 graduating class at The National Theatre School: Shannon Currie, Adrian Shepherd Gawinski, Sehar Bhojani, Grace Fitzpatrick, Darcy Gerhart, Stephane Garneau-Monten along with Chris Blades (Bishops University) Alex Plouffe (University of Victoria), and Chloe Poch-Goldin, making her stage debut.
The Life of Jude is the devastating and hilarious parable of a boy who believes he is touched by God and how his blind faith destroys the world around him. Set in a mountain town long ago, and now, a water corporation, a military garrison and the local church vie for power. “Agitators” are being arrested, land is being expropriated and Jude, a young priest, leads a populist revolt against Injustice. The play features live music and an explosive chorus of singers in a collision of gospel, blues and Kurt Weill. The play has been developed with the assistance of the Tarragon Theatre, Theatre Passse Muraille, The Shaw Festival, George Brown Theatre School and The National Theatre School of Canada.
Led by the bold vision of director David Ferry it features Set Design by Glenn Davidson, Lighting Design by Bonnie Beecher, Projection Design by Raha Javanfar and Costume Design by Cat Haywood and Kendra Terpenning. The music was developed at the National Theatre School’s Fall 2012 workshop, and composed by graduating student Jesse LaVercombe, with Arrangement and Musical Direction by fellow graduate Adrian Shepherd-Gawinski.
The Life of Jude is part of the 2013 SummerWorks Festival and runs at Theatre Passe Muraille Mainstage from August 8-18th.
