Everyone comes to Ross’s Colin Munch (Punch Up, Toronto Fringe, Second City and Bad Dog Theatre Regular) Alien Experience Support Group for different reasons: some want love, some want friends, some want allies in 'the war to come' - but above all, they want to be believed. Personal beliefs, testimonies, and loyalty to each other are tested when a new member Zoe Heather Marie Annis (Dora award nominated creator of Morrow and Jasp) accuses Ross of being less human than he appears.
The accusation sparks an unorthodox trial of the group’s leader led by Wayne Chris Wilson (Just For Laughs, Best Comedic Play 2013/2014 Vancouver Fringe), a child star whose knowledge of the law is derived entirely from a stint on a popular high school meets court room drama. A hardened survival enthusiast Peter Carlone (The Irrelevant Show, CBC Punchline) and a Christian fighting to reconcile her belief in extraterrestrials Amy Lee (The Dog and the Angel,
Theatre Columbus, Hannah’s Suitcase Young People’s Theatre) help Wayne in the arraignment of their suspicious leader. Bright Lights is searing dark comedy that questions our beliefs, our desire to connect with those that affirm them, and how far we’ll go to prove our version of the truth.
Theatre Brouhaha, the hit indie company behind Fringe hits Punch Up (Best of Fringe, *****Torontoist), We are the Bomb (NNNNN) and Help Yourself (Best of Fringe), teams up with prolific Toronto playwright Kat Sandler (“The most exciting theatre voice in this city today” - Toronto Star) and the performers behind Canadian Comedy Award winning duo Peter N' Chris, clown duo Morro & Jasp, Shakey-Shake and Friends, and Bad Dog Theatre's Colin Munch to
create an unforgettable dark comedy about paranoia trust, and the need to be believed.
