Who was Mata Hari? This time jumping drama looks at the infamous femme fatale 12 hours before her execution by firing squad cross cut with fiery debates about what it means to be a feminist 100 years later. DON’T TALK TO ME LIKE I’M YOUR WIFE will challenge your ideas about historical revisionism, feminism, racism and a few other ‘isms’.... Starring Kimwun Perehinec as doomed courtesan and dancer Mata Hari, Lisa Karen Cox as Helene, her cellmate, Paula Wing is nun, Soeur Leonide, and David Christo is Professor
Christopher Locke. Written by 2016 Cayle Chernin Award recipient Andrea Scott and directed by Andrew Lamb. Come and enjoy the dirty martini of the SummerWorks Theatre Festival August 4-14 at the Theatre Centre.
Unbeknownst to her, Mata Hari is to be executed tomorrow. In the meantime she fights with her Senegalese- French cellmate, Helene Thibadault, who is tired of sharing space with an insufferable dreamer. Discussions about sex, love, loyalty, and apples ensue while Soeur Leonide attempts to counsel them both. 100 years later self-described feminist, history Professor Christopher Locke, tangles with Karen Sinclair who challenges his ideas of what it means to be a feminist & a black woman in contemporary North America. DON’T TALK TO ME LIKE I’M YOUR WIFE is 90 minutes that will have you shaken and stirred.
