Does the speed at which humans communicate interfere with or enhance the depth at which we connect? This question is explored in Caryl Churchill's dazzlingly inventive play Love and Information, soon to be seen in a space-specific production directed by Dora winner Andrea Donaldson at the Toronto Fringe Festival, July 5-16, 2017.
Referred to as "the David Bowie of contemporary theatre" (Dominic Dromgoole) and credited with "changing the language of theatre" (Marius Von Mayerburg), Caryl Churchill is known for works in which "time, gender and character are all exploded" (The Telegraph). Love and Information is no exception. A kaleidoscope of witty and poignant vignettes, Love and Information addresses the ways individuals lust for, process, and reject knowledge while trying to connect with and understand one another. The opportunity for creative input by the director and company are boundless, and what drew award-winning director Donaldson to the project. In a play with over 50 unordered scenes, directors are invited to reshape the play in each production; no two productions are the same. Says Donaldson, "Love and Information is a very relatable show, with themes and topics that resonate with any individual who is trying to make sense of the universe and our place in it."
The cast features a troupe of emerging artists who are all in their final year of training at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts' Triple Threat® College Program. On working with a group of emerging artists, Donaldson says, "The Fringe has such a youthful vibe and this play speaks directly to our contemporaries. Fringe means accessibility - both for the artists and for the audience - a time to truly explore and experiment!"
