Toronto, October 1, 2012 – Kat Sandler and Theatre Brouhaha – the makers of Help Yourself at the 2012 Toronto Fringe Festival – will be staging a new play titled Delicacy by Kat Sandler at the Factory Studio Theatre from October 25th – November 4th.
This past summer, playwright/director Kat Sandler gained attention and accolades for her play Help Yourself at the 2012 Toronto Fringe Festival. Help Yourself was performed to sold-out houses and was awarded “Best New Play”, “Patrons’ Pick” and “Best of Fringe.” Sean Davidson of NOW said “Crackling dialogue…A rocket ride through tough questions (and flip answers) about what keeps us good even when we want to be bad.”
Delicacy is a deliciously dark, modern take on the drawing-room play, a vicious mash-up that’s part Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf part swinger’s party, with a side of downtown Toronto condo living. A wealthy Yorkville couple meets a younger, open-minded couple at an underground sex club. Two weeks later, they invite them back to their condo for wine and cheese to see if lightning strikes twice. What follows is an emotional brouhaha that will leave both couples wondering if marriage is all it’s cracked up to be.
The play features Andy Trithardt (Summerworks hit Big Plans, one of NOW magazine’s Artists to Watch in 2012) Kaleb Alexander (Fringe Festival Patron’s Pick Dirty Butterfly), Tennille Read (Alumnae Theatre’s upcoming Drowning Girls) and Kelly McCormack (Theatre Brouhaha’s 27 Wagons Full of Cotton).
Theatre Brouhaha was founded in 2010 to create engaging and accessible theatre for a younger generation of theatre-goers. This is Theatre Brouhaha’s fourth show in 2012 – first LOVESEXMONEY at the Next Stage Festival, then 27 Wagons Full of Cotton in The Tennessee Project, then Help Yourself at Toronto Fringe and now Delicacy at the Factory Studio Theatre. Delicacy marks the first play the company has independently produced since staging its premiere production of LOVESEXMONEY in 2011.
“I am so glad the apocalypse didn’t happen – 2012 has been a good year for Theatre Brouhaha,” says Sandler.
