Heaven Above/Heaven Below has been removed from the 2013 Winter/Spring Season. The play has been delayed by cancer. Linda Griffiths is receiving treatment in B.C. with encouraging results and will return for a workshop production in June. She had this to say, “Cancer is both an ordinary and an extraordinary thing to have. Lots of people have been through this and now it’s me. No tragedy so far.”
Heaven Above/Heaven Below will not be offered this spring, because TPM has chosen not to replace Linda in the production, as she is integral to the success of the piece. Artistic Director Andy McKim looks forward to the time when Heaven Above/Heaven Below will find its way back to the TPM stage. McKim said, “if there is anyone who can tackle this, it is TPM’s Linda Griffiths.”
TPM has long history of showcasing emerging talent alongside established Canadian artists and or work. TPM has taken the opportunity to program a show Andy has long wanted to see back in the building—Legoland, the prequel to Ride the Cyclone. TPM and their good friends at Atomic Vaudeville have had a longstanding collaborative relationship and are excited about this new occasion to work together. TPM is thrilled to welcome back the unique team behind last year’s smash hit.
Legoland is the first in a trilogy of theme park inspired dark comedies by Jacob Richmond, and is the prequel to the smash hit Ride The Cyclone. Sister and brother team Penny and Ezra find themselves out of place at their new boarding school after their commune is shut down and their parents are jailed. The two social pariahs soon plot an escape to track down Penny’s pop-star idol; they fund the North American odyssey by selling their prescription drugs. Legoland is a contemporary Vaudeville routine with ukulele, puppets, multi-media and gangster rap, all told through the eyes of the “Gruesome Twosome,” Canada’s youngest drug cartel.
Legoland will run from Tuesday April 2-Saturday April 13 in the TPM Mainspace, with performances everyday at 7:30pm with 2:00pm Saturday matinees.
