This Theatre Passe Muraille production of The Four Corners marks the third time that Theatre Passe Muraille and FIXT POINT have collaborated to create an out-of-the-box theatre experience. This time, their collaboration has resulted in a radio drama that explores the divergent nature of the Queen and Bathurst intersection. We invite you to come and join us on November 29, at 12:00pm for a lunch time launch party of The Four Corners where you will have the opportunity to be the first to hear these published podcasts, recorded with a live audience and a team of 9 actors on the four corners earlier this season.
This docu-drama created by FIXT POINT is a melding of interviews, research and observation reflecting the rich history and contrasting social spheres represented on these diverse corners. Throughout the development, FIXT POINT has collaborated with members of The Meeting Place, city councilor Adam Vaughan, local business owners and managers, as well as street youth / musicians.
It’s not just Toronto that is standing up and taking notice of the amazing creative team at FIXT POINT and the theatrical groundbreaking of The Four Corners. The Tribeca Film Institute is partnering with open-source platform Zeega to increase participation in and broaden the horizons of interactive storytelling. FIXT POINT will be joining them in Cambridge at the MIT Media Lab for the first collaborate hackathon.
Artistic Director Andy McKim has long held an interest in this eclectic corner found steps from TPM and feels FIXT POINT was the perfect fit to reflect this unique neighbourhood. “I have always thought of Bathurst and Queen as a border zone. It is a place in Toronto where numerous city cultures meet up in a sensational mash-up of fringe culture, established residents and the newly arrived. The Four Corners mines this fertile ground to bring us a compelling and candid picture of this border culture.”
This November 29th celebration of the site-specific radio drama The Four Corners marks the 8th initiative of TPM’s Theatre Beyond Walls Season. The fall at TPM has already seen a hugely successful Street Fest; the inspiring and intimate dance piece Queen West Project; a touring wonderland- The ToyBox -that had its first two stops in our Mainspace and at City Hall where even the Councilors turned out; the launch of our Bring The Buzz Festival; the Toronto love story This Must Be The Place: The CN Tower Show; and the political docudrama Fare Game: Life in Toronto’s Taxis which runs until December 8.
The Four Corners was also supported through The Ontario Arts Council's Media Artist Granting program.
