A shack. Large windows overlook a mysterious outdoor wood stove… sliding plexiglass walls that become a frozen screen, frost, a storm: hail, sleet. Drifting snow. Thus begins Alexis Martin’s magnum opus directed by his colleague Daniel Brière. On stage, with interbreeding and humor, eight actors portray sixty characters, all facing a cruel winter.
The Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental portrays this saga of French Canada with vigour and enthusiasm, evidence of a searing desire to tell the story of a people through a unique vision throbbing with everyday life. A metaphor for human life, the extreme cold of a Canadian winter is a force of nature whose impact on our collective destiny is unavoidable, often dramatic… and always poetic.
