TORONTO, ON… Launching Factory Theatre’s revitalized 2012/13 season, sponsored by BMO Financial Group, is the world premiere of Every Letter Counts by Nina Lee Aquino, playing January 26 – February 24, 2013. Every Letter Counts is Nina Lee Aquino’s very personal re-imagining of Filipino political icon, Benigno Aquino. Struggling to find her own path and haunted by her uncle’s voice, a desperate “Bunny” breaks into the Aquino Museum at night, where past, present, myth and memory collide. The play also delves into the world of dyslexia and the power of an uncle’s lessons in how one can learn to read by playing the game of Scrabble. Bunny learns that Ninoy has given her more than the power of words. He has given her the power to shape her own destiny.
Directed by Nigel Shawn Williams (select directing credits: Brothel #9, Tomasso’s Party (Factory Theatre); Intimate Apparel (Alberta Theatre Projects), the play stars Nina Lee Aquino (select stage credits: Hongbu & Nolbu: The Tale of the Magic Pumpkins (Young People's Theatre); Little Dragon (K'Now Theatre / Theatre Passe Muraille); Miss Orient(ed) (Carlos Bulosan Theatre) as “Bunny,” Jon de Leon (select stage/film credits: Bartholomew Fair, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Twelfth Night (Stratford Festival); The Romance of Mango Rubio (CBT/King Showcase); CTV’s Flashpoint) as “Ninoy,” Anthony Malarky (select stage/film credits: Ragtime, Trouble in Tahiti, My Fair Lady (Shaw Festival); As You Like It, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Stratford Festival); Les Misérables (Thousand Islands Playhouse); and Tapestry New Opera’s Iron Road) as “Cecilio” and, playing “Marcos” is Earl Pastko (select stage/film credits: LaRonde(Crow’s Theatre); Wuthering Heights (ACT I.V.), Ban This Show (Buddies in Bad Times Theatre), Bruce MacDonald’s Highway 61, Jeremy Podeswa’s Eclipse and Atom Egoyan’s The Sweet Hereafter).
