Toronto, ON - March 19, 2012: Albert Schultz, Founding Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre Company, today announced its spring repertory pairing of 20th Century American and British works. You Can't Take It With You by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman begins on April 19 at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, and David Storey's Home starts its run on May 8.
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1937, You Can't Take It With You revolves around the colourful Sycamore family and their friends being thrown into unaccustomed order when sensible Alice brings a prospective beau and his conservative parents home for dinner. The play, one of the most enduring of 20th Century American comedies, will be directed by Soulpepper Founding Member Joseph Ziegler. The ensemble will include Brian Bisson, Derek Boyes, Raquel Duffy, Patricia Fagan, John Jarvis, Founding Members Diego Matamoros and Nancy Palk, Krystin Pellerin, Eric Peterson, Gregory Prest, Brenda Robins, Sabryn Rock, Mike Ross, Andre Sills, Michael Simpson, Maria Vacratsis and Tim Ziegler. Set and costumes are designed by Christina Poddubiuk with lighting design by Steven Hawkins and sound design by Richard Feren. You Can't Take It with You begins previews on April 19, opens on April 26 and runs until June 21. The production sponsor is Polar Securities.
The second spring show is David Storey's Home, from the renaissance of English playwriting in the 60s and 70s. This rarely produced play is an intricate, moving and ultimately surprising work exploring the fragility of human interaction. Home will be helmed by Artistic Director Albert Schultz and will feature Oliver Dennis, Founding Member Michael Hanrahan, Brenda Robins, Andre Sills and Maria Vacratsis. Set and costumes are designed by Ken MacKenzie, with lighting design by Lorenzo Savoini and sound design by John Gzowski. It begins previews on May 8, opens on May 17 and runs until June 20. The production sponsor for Home is MasterCard Priceless Toronto.
