In honour of Vimy Ridge Day, WAR HORSE and the Carlton Cinema are pleased to present a free WORLD WAR 1 mini film festival on Saturday, April 7th at the Carlton Cinema (20 Carlton Street at Yonge).
Four excellent films that examine The Great War from different points of view will be screened throughout the day. The film festival takes place only two days before the 95th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge (April 9), which, for those who have forgotten their grade nine history, is considered one of the major battles of WWI and is viewed as one of the defining moments in Canadian military history.
The screenings are free and with a suggested donation of $5 to the VIMY FOUNDATION you will receive a Vimy Pin.

OH, WHAT A LOVELY WAR (PG) at 1:15 pm
A rare chance to see this 1969 film adaptation of the brilliant stage musical, featuring an all-star cast including Laurence Olivier, Michael Redgrave, Vanessa Redgrave, Ralph Richardson & Maggie Smith.
A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT (18A) at 4:15 pm
This 2004 film is in the form of a mystery as a young fiancee tries to determine the circumstances of her lover's death during the Battle of the Somme. Starring the brilliant Audrey Tautou, best known for Amelie and Coco Avec Chanel.
PASSCHENDAELE (14A) at 7:00 pm
Paul Gross's spectacular 2008 film about a sergeant with the Canadian 10th Battalion during WWI's battle of Passchendaele is in the classic tradition of the best of war romance genre.
GALLIPOLI (PG) at 9:30 pm
Peter Weir's 1981 film about the Australian participation in the Gallipoli campaign made an international star of the young Mel Gibson.
Arrive early as seating is limited and based on a first-come, first-served basis.
