Toronto, March 7, 2012 –Théâtre français de Toronto (TfT) is pleased to present L’Emmerdeur (The Pain in the Ass), the Francis Veber play that gave birth to the “idiot” of Le Dîner de cons (The Dinner Game). Directed by TfT Artistic Director Guy Mignault, it will play at the Berkeley Street Theatre from April 18 to May 5, 2012.
Following the critical and popular success of the Dîner de cons, presented at Théâtre français de Toronto two years ago this spring, Guy Mignault reconnects with Francis Veber, whom he considers “the Modern Molière,” to offer the audience a side-splitting cult piece.
L’Emmerdeur was born out of Francis Veber’s rewrite of his first play, Le Contrat (The Contract), where the mythic character of François Pignon appeared for the first time. During a failed suicide attempt in a Nice hotel he encounters Ralph Milan, a hit man on a job, who would be better off steering clear of this Pain in the Ass.
This explosive encounter gives rise to ridiculous situations and mistaken identity: in other words, loads of fun and a guaranteed evening of great theatre, driven by the Dîner de cons’ two brilliant actors, Paul Essiembre and Pierre Simpson.
Direction: Guy Mignault. Featuring, among others, Paul Essiembre, Pierre Simpson, Stéphanie Broschart, René Lemieux and Manuel Verreydt
A Théâtre français de Toronto production.
