Oshawa - April 10, 2012.
Last month, Driftwood Theatre was honoured with a commitment of support for $15,000 from TD Bank Group, establishing the TD/Driftwood Theatre Creative Roots Partnership.
The cheque was presented on centre ice at the GM Centre in Oshawa on Feb 17, 2012, in front of a sold-out audience of 5,600, by Stephen Leslie, District Vice President, TD Commercial Banking, and Chris Dyrda, District Senior Vice President, TD Commercial Banking. Driftwood's Founding Artistic Director Jeremy Smith and past-President Cathy Bate accepted the donation on behalf of the theatre.
Driftwood is proud and excited to celebrate the occasion and this amazing partnership with TD, who have a long history of supporting arts projects at the local community level:
"TD invests in local community initiatives because we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for our customers and our employees. I am delighted to demonstrate our commitment to the Durham artistic community through our support of The Driftwood Theatre Group," said Stephen Leslie, District Vice President, TD Commercial Banking. "These funds will assist Driftwood with the creation and development of new theatrical productions and provide training opportunities for emerging local artists. And this will have a positive impact on business and culture in the Durham region."
Driftwood's Jeremy Smith: "TD has provided Driftwood with such an incredible opportunity to firmly establish its creative roots in Canadian theatre. This partnership is indicative of both companies' firm commitment to the continued development of theatre in Canada through the creation of new work and the nurturing of our young artists and technicians. We are extremely grateful to Stephen and his team at TD for working so hard to make this Dream a reality."
The award-winning Driftwood Theatre Group, founded by Oshawa native Jeremy Smith, is Ontario’s leading outdoor summer touring company, on the road with its 'simply classic' Bard's Bus Tour since 1995. Over 80,000 people from across Ontario, Canada and the world have enjoyed one of Driftwood's accessible, Pay-What-You-Can performances.
In 2012, TD's Creative Roots gift will assist in the development of Driftwood’s musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's timeless comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream, opening at Parkwood Estate in Oshawa on Saturday, July 14, and touring the Durham Region and Ontario until August 19.
TD's Creative Roots partnership proudly supports the development and creation of new theatre, and work and training programs for emerging artists.
