Toronto, April 19, 2012 – Pandemic Theatre announces its latest 2011-2012 Season of Violence production, AUTOGEDDON, opening May 17th, 2012 at the Dancemakers Centre for Creation in Toronto's historic Distillery District.
Written by HEATHCOTE WILLIAMS in 1991, this neo-apocalyptic sci-fi poem critically examines the modern world’s obsession with the automobile, and serves as the basis for a darkly comedic experiment that arrives at the logical conclusion of a fatally motorized society. Framed from the point of view of an alien visitor quietly observing the strange behaviour of Earth’s inhabitants as it tries to decipher whom the dominant species is – man, or machine – Williams’ cynical prognosis for the planet’s future holds as much relevance today as it did over two decades ago.
Presented with Happy Trails Productions, Pandemic welcomes guest directors STEVEN BUSH* (former Artistic Director, Great Canadian Theatre Co.) and FIONA GRIFFITHS (Hotel Medea, London, UK) for this tour-de-force ensemble creation that incorporates Buffon clowning, Commedia dell’Arte, and live music.

AUTOGEDDON features an outstanding host of talent, including TARA GRAMMY (The Travelling Salesman, Best of Toronto Fringe 2011), OMAR HADY (Homegrown, Summerworks 2010) and JIV PARASRAM (Ali & Ali: The Deportation Hearings, Factory/Cahoots/Neworld Theatre), with assistant direction by JENN FRASER (A Conversation, Pressgang Theatre).
AUTOGEDDON marks Pandemic Theatre’s 10th stage production, following the success of March’s THE LOST SAGAS OF TJORVI THE FLACCID and a guest speaking appearance at TEDxRideauCanal.
