Opera Atelier is going on a whirlwind tour this spring and summer, and we need your help to get there. The entire production of Armide will travel to the Opéra Royal in the Palace of Versailles and The Glimmerglass Festival in New York. That’s 9 principal singers, 16 dancers, 18 crew members and 29 members of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra! This is your opportunity to support a singer, a dancer, or even a prop dagger.
Donate now and help make our international tour of Armide a resounding success!
Our 2012 tour marks the first time Opera Atelier has been invited to perform at the Opéra Royal de Versailles, arguably France’s most prestigious theatre and one of the most beautiful in the world. Opera Atelier is the only North American company featured in the Opéra Royal 2011-12 season. We are delighted that the Opéra Royal agreed to engage the entire company, allowing us to present a uniquely Canadian interpretation of this great masterpiece.
It is no exaggeration to say that our production of Armide will represent one of the most ambitious Canadian theatre projects ever to take place in France. This will be an exceptional showcase for Canada and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Opera Atelier and Tafelmusik. Lully’s Armide premieres at the Opéra Royal on Friday, May 11 and runs for three performances until Sunday, May 13.
“If you work in Baroque musical theatre, nothing could be sweeter than an invitation to Versailles” Richard Ouzounian, Toronto Star
Following our tour to France, Armide will head back across the pond to New York. For the first time in the company’s history, Opera Atelier will embark on an important co-production with The Glimmerglass Festival. This is the most important North American engagement OA has ever had, taking us to one of the most prestigious music festivals in North America.
