The Toronto Fringe is thrilled to announce their new Executive Director - current Seventh Stage Artistic Director Kelly Straughan, and existing Toronto Fringe ED Gideon Arthurs couldn’t be happier with his replacement. “Kelly is the perfect successor – passionate, intelligent, capable and with her own distinct vision that honours the spirit of the Fringe. I’m very much looking forward to seeing the Toronto Fringe flourish under her leadership and am excited to watch her steer an organization I love dearly.”
Prior to her position with Seventh Stage, Straughan was the Associate Artistic Director at Nightwood Theatre, and the Assistant Artistic Director at Tarragon Theatre from 2007-2010. She holds a Masters degree in Theatre Directing from the University of British Columbia. Straughan is delighted to take the reins of such a vibrant organization. “It is an honour to be chosen as Gideon’s successor. The past five years have been marked by unparalleled growth and accomplishment for the Toronto Fringe and I look forward to building on this strong foundation and continuing to serve the artistic community.”
Arthurs will leave the Toronto Fringe in August to commence his role as General Manager of the Tarragon Theatre. Over his five years at the Fringe, he has grown the health and stability of the organization. He has expanded operations and has overseen the development of numerous projects including the birth of the Creation Lab. Straughan will be shadowing Gideon during this year’s Fringe Festival and into August until Gideon departs. “It has been my great honour to serve the Fringe these past five years, and I’m delighted to hand the reins over to someone as dynamic as Kelly.”
