Toronto, ON… Nightwood Theatre is proud to present the third annual Lawyer Show. This unique event, which will raise vital funds for Nightwood, sees a cast of 35lawyers on stage performing in William Shakespeare’s comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. Directed by Lawyer Show masterclass instructor Christine Brubaker, along with Nightwood’s Artistic Director, Kelly Thornton and the Associate Artistic Producer, Michelle Alexander. Nightwood Theatre is thrilled to be partnering with Toronto’s legal community on this annual fundraising initiative.
Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy about two pairs of lovers, Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero. Benedick and Beatrice are engaged in a “merry war”; they proclaim their scorn for love, marriage, and each other. In contrast, Claudio and Hero are sweet young people who are rendered practically speechless by their love for one another. By means of gossip, rumour, and overhearing, Benedick and Beatrice are tricked into confessing their love for each other, and Claudio is tricked into rejectingHero at the altar. However, Dogberry, a Constable, discovers the evil trickery of the villain, the bastard Don John. In the end, Don John is captured and everyone else joins in a dance celebrating the marriages of the two couples.
Aside from money raised from ticket sales, funds will also be generated from sponsorships, program ads and a silent auction. All proceeds from The Lawyer Show 2012 will go towards enhancing Nightwood’s productions and training programs.
