Toronto, May 30, 2012 – Toronto Operetta Theatre welcomes the summer holidays with a Gala Concert devoted to the greatest hits from the operettas of Strauss, Lehár, Kálmán, Romberg, Gilbert & Sullivan, Offenbach and other giants of the Golden Age of Operetta. The concert, VOICES OF SUMMER, will be heard at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts on June 23, 2012. The afternoon, including Tea and Sweets and a Silent Auction beginning at 2:30, will be the perfect way to begin the summer holidays and get a preview of Toronto Operetta Theatre’s coming season. “Not-for-profit performing groups such as Toronto Operetta Theatre must be creative when it comes to enhancing their profile” says TOT”s General Director Guillermo Silva-Marin, “and VOICES OF SUMMER promises to be a thrilling afternoon of melody and romance.”
Silva-Marin has assembled a glittering roster of superb vocalists to showcase the wonderful music of the Operetta masters including Leslie Ann Bradley, recent winner of the Tecumseh Sherman Rogers Award. Her co-stars include Miriam Khalil, a resplendent Empress Elizabeth in THE BIRD SELLER, Gabrielle Prata, our sensual Lalume in KISMET, Robert Longo, the handsome Venetian Marco in THE GONDOLIERS, tenor Michael Barrett, a triumphant Seth in the world premiere of TAPTOO!, Andrew Tees, a masterful Private Willis in IOLANTHE, Paulina Swierczek making her TOT debut and Guillermo Silva-Marin with Henry Ingram as Host and Master of Ceremonies.
When it comes to summer sizzle for musical entertainment, nothing matches the magic of operetta. Melodies tug at your heartstrings, romance explodes in three-quarter time and the comic scenes provoke gales of laughter. Oh yes…nobody dies at the end! Popular tunes from this fabulous world include: Vilia, the Merry Widow Waltz, Play Gypsy Play, I Go off to Maxim’s, I am Easily Assimilated, Glitter and be Gay!, The Blue Danube Waltz and much, much more.
