Collingwood, ON (June 12, 2012) - Warning: Theatre Collingwood advises you that the risk of laughter is extreme during the 2012 summer theatre season which runs between July 16 and September 22 at the Historic Gayety Theatre. The professional company offers four comedies that span a range of styles, from madcap spoof to adult humour, saucy farce to rural wit.
You’ll have a really good laugh during THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP by Charles Ludlam (July 16-21, 2012). Revived off- Broadway to rave reviews, this hilarious mile-a-minute spoof of the horror genre makes fun of melodrama, farce, satire and Hitchcock. There’s a sympathetic werewolf, vampire, Egyptian mummy, mystery, even a murder or two! Kevin Dennis and Adrian Marchuk perform eight characters in this madcap parody.
Playwright Norm Foster also stars in SKIN FLICK (July 30- August 4). In the midst of an economic downturn, a regular, middle-aged couple suddenly lose their jobs. Panicked, they stumble upon the idea of producing an ‘adult movie’ to make ends meet. Along with Norm, actors David Nairn, Susan Greenfield, Amanda Parsons and Andy Pogson deliver this tender
and affectionate comedy (Adult Advisory). This is a co-production with Bluewater Summer Theatre.
Announcing another World Premiere this summer! Award-winning Canadian playwright, Vern Theissen premieres DO NOT DISTURB (August 20 – 25) on our stage. Two upwardly mobile urban professionals criss-cross the globe to close deals. But does love stand a chance in a world ruled by technology and espionage? Melisssa Jane Shaw, Mark Huisman and Mark McGrinder premiere this saucy new farce.
WINGFIELD LOST & FOUND (September 17-22) starring Rod Beattie, will shake the rafters with laughter. It’s the seventh (and most recent) in the series written by our own Dan Needles, about a city stockbroker who quits the rat race to buy a hundred acre farm. Persephone Township’s worst drought in 25 years brings Walt face to face with climate change and his ecological footprint.
Designers for the 2012 season include: Steven Thomas (Set Designer), Vaughn Davis (Set Designer), Linda J. Phillips (Costume Designer), Sarah Scroggie (Lighting Designer) and Hella Sandberg (Make-up/Hair Designer). The production team includes: Barry Cook (Stage Manager), Paula Stewart (Stage Manager), Rachel Thomas (Scenic Artist), Chelsea Coulter (Props), Amanda Bryce and Meghan Maguire (Production Assistants).
